A publication of The Pensacola Dog Owners Association, Inc., July 2006

Dog of the Month:  Greetings, my name is Pixie and I'm seven years old in September.  I'm a 13" Beagle and I love it.  I love to eat and munch on lots of things, therefore I am a little on the; I need to exercise side. I enjoy looking at my other dog pals when I'm at the park, but I prefer to just roam and investigate.  I am extremely laid back and enjoy observing, not so much participating.  Hope to see you at the park. My guardian Paula Browner takes me to Bayview Park almost everyday, I love it.   Pixie

Junior Humane Society:  We all know people who are in need of a loving dog.  Now they can get one from the Jr. Humane Society.  On Saturday the 8th or 22nd of July, 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. stop by PetsMart on Davis Hwy. The Junior Humane Society will be there with loads of pups for your friend or you to pick from. The adoption fee pays for the spay/neuter for the pet. Check the Jr. Humane Socity web site at: www.jhs.petfinder.com . If you would like to volunteer to help them, contact Frankie Vanhorn at: frankiegone2dogs@aol.com

Special Thanks:  The Associations monthly Community Outreach program is going great.  Attendance is improving and the subjects discussed at the meetings have ranged from dog health to training.  A special thanks to the speakers and local businesses that provided many door prizes: PetsMart, East Hill Animal Clinic, Airport Animal Hospital, PetsSuper Market and Central Bark Bakery.  Please patronize these businesses that give so generously to our community.

Pet Shelters for Hurricane Evacuees:   The project is now in the hands of the Escambia County Commissioners.  Commissioner Tom Benjanin office notified the Association that the issue will be addressed August 10th at the County Commissions Committee meeting.  Please keep the letters to the County Commissioners going and if you can try and attend the meeting August 10th, 3:30 pm, in the Courthouse located at Government and Palafox.

Celebration:  Yes we are going to have a celebration at Bayview Park, treats provided, BYOD.  We have been notified that work will start on laying the memorial bricks and placing benches outside the dog park on July 10th. Many of you have waited a long time for this, so lets celebrate on July 15th, 10:00 A.M. at the park. (BYOD=Bring your own dog)

Get ready for Christmas in July: Yes, the Association is getting ready for the Pensacola Christmas Parade.  Many people have asked to be put on the list to be in the parade.  We would like to help make this years parade better then last year.  If you want to be on the list visit the Associations web site at www.info@pensacoladogowners.org or email us to have your name added.

Change in Day of Monthly meetings: Effective, August 2006 ,we are changing the day that we hold our monthly meeting.  It has been held on the last Wednesday of each month, however, we have found that it conflicts with many other organizations, so we are changing it to the second Tuesday of the month effective August 2006.

Membership/Donations:  Joining the Pensacola Dog Owners Association is as easy as clicking the following:  www.info@pensacoladogowners.org. Always tax deducible.

Taking your dog to Nursing Homes/Hospice Houses:  If you missed the Community Outreach program on June 28th and are still interested in getting your dog certified to visit nursing homes/hospice centers please contact Cheryl Giebel-Peterson at: bcinc1@juno.com .

Suggestions:  If you know a way that the dog parks or our Association can be better.  Please let us know. We are always looking for ways to improve.

Please feel free to give, post or show this as well as any other Association Newsletters/emails to friends, neighbors, coworkers or anyone you know.  Remember this is YOUR organization and it is community based with everything being done for all the residents of the community.
